What is the Green Team?
The Green Team is a community engaged initiative with the goal of bringing sustainability education and regenerative practices to students who do not receive that experience in school. Populations that will be most affected by climate change are not being educated about topics that would help them be prepared for their futures. We want to bring accessible and individual practices to students who do not have the existing curriculum to do so. We hope to do so in a way that is both informational and engaging to empower the students to make their own sustainable choices.
The Green Team was funded by DU Grand Challenges and the Center for Community Engagement to advance Scholarship and Learning.

Hello!! My name is Soffy Anderson and I am an International Studies major and a Spanish, Russian, and Leadership minor at the University of Denver. Being raised in rural Cody, Wyoming has given me a strong sense of community as well as an understanding as to what it means to be an active community member. The University of Denver has provided me with so many new amazing experiences to work and help to build stronger, local communities. I am an intern at the Center for Sustainability, and through this work to make regenerative practices more approachable, I was able to meet Melissa Kreppein. As the program coordinator for the Center, Derek Brannon brought together The Green Team with leaders that were equally passionate about environmental stewardship and sustainability education.
In order to help teach regenerative practices, we have to understand how to communicate with all audiences. It was easy to find myself learning as much as I was teaching, especially when engaging in material I often see, but in a new capacity. Sustainability is an incredible tool that can be used to communicate ethics and positive lifestyle choices which are especially essential for our younger generation.
I am excited to continue my work in regenerative practices, and hope to be able to use it as a tool to empower and strengthen my new community.
